Uncouth Behaviour as a Political Hallmark

Shane... doing a Joyce.

There was a time when bad behaviour was sanctioned and penalty's applied but not in this brave new world of the Ugly American's  Murdochracy .   More of that later.

More of my pieces from our (last years) two man show which didn't really get an airing as I only photographed them for cataloguing today.

First is "Guten Tag, Kurt." A sideways glance at the work of Kurt Schwitters.

 12mm ply 90 H x 42 W x w30 D. w/ 2mm steel mesh
  Faux rusted steel patina.

Guten Tag, Kurt.

No-one seemed to like this piece but I like its affinity to the Bauhaus of the late 20's and early 30's and also the Russian Constructivists of the 20's... it also  seems to reference Anthony Caro's horizontal sculptural developments in the 60's.

"Swing" is an old piece being repeated atm. Originally made from Privet Hedge, a wood which is quite  hard and a strong material ... in its original form it was sold and now (if it survived the journey), resides in the Mid West of America.      The next iteration will be in Manna Gum.   30 x 30 x 25.
Next from the show was "Paul", a portrait of the fellow who successfully exhibited with me...

Based upon an beautiful expressionistic C15th sculpture by Nicholas Gerheart Leyden, this piece  more accurately reflects the quiet contemplative nature of the sitter . Cast resin, faux bronze patina, 35H x 30 W  x 30.

"Maggie" has appeared on this blog before but there may be news about this piece in a month or two.

Uncouth Behaviour as a Political Hallmark

"Drone" Dutton, can he ever tell the truth or is he just  more obviously evil than the thing he replaced?
"Barnyard" Joyce, is he just an alchoholic sponge or a Canberra tourist attraction?
"The Harpy", Cash, why does she seem wholly demented and are the Sulphur Crested Cockies really complaining about image theft?
"An_us" Taylor who allegedly forges letters and who congratulates himself on Farcebook is really a  "leader"...but of what ?
"Handy Andy", Hastie  seems more akin to the Waffen SS... and just why did that nick-name stick after his "tour" in Afghanistan?
"Pansy" Paterson,  an IPA "intellectual" (that's a joke folks), who would look genuinely appropriate in a Hitler Youth cossie, sans face-fluff, of course, who takes himself so seriously that everyone can only laugh.

This is a brief look at what is supposed to be an alternative government, the leftovers from nine years on corruption, mismanagement, policy inertia and bad faith.

One  positive note is , "The Bullying-Liar-from-the-Shire" and" multiple-minister," he who stated, "I don't hold a hose, mate", "Scummo of Advertising" who was the  "Front" of the last disaster to befall the country is departing our shores.
Australia's gain will be the Yankee's loss. But will he have to return to  face ICAC?

But all this dross is constantly feted by our media. Why?

Because of the Ugly American, Murdoch's  infiltration of the ABC and a 75% control of all media in this country.
He and his minions are frightened that their sway on what has been a supine public is fading; that the rhetoric of fear, catastrophe and frankly, bullshit is more and more being seen for what it is, just bullshit!

The "News" we have pushed at us is not news at all, it is a collection of data to serve the purpose of billionaires and their business interests.
Does Murdoch have interests in Gaza ...through the Israeli's?
Does "Our Biggest Miner" Rinehart live in Indonesia?
Does "Twiggy" really have the interests of the indigenous at heart?

Oz  petals, needs to grow up...

Hoo-roo,
Shane.

Exhibiting Taste of a Peculiar Type

Portrait of the Artist...

G'day you three,

Now, although the title may seem to reference the first section of today's rant it does so only obliquely and really is addressing some recent political machinations. I suppose the key link to the title in both sections is appropriateness.

Shane's been showing off again and unusually for him, with a painting as well as a photograph and a sculpture. All of the works are titled "I do Like to be Besides the Seaside...:" Nos 1, 2, and 3

The title was originally suggested to the arts space when exhibition ideas had been sought and the offering was returned as, "A Day at the Beach"  (?)  with the admonition that their version would allow more imaginative responses.
To me it's banal, prosaic and  dully unimaginative.

No 1, Elwood

Photographed early one morning way, way back

No 3, Point Impossible, Torquay

A re-worked older piece that came up pretty well and may deserve a new mold as the original was in pretty poor nick and has been binned.

No-one asked. well, one knew,  but there is a connecting theme to the titles but again there has been no response.

"Elwood" is a gentle work, very peaceful and subdued and although I like  Rita Wingard's "Crashing Waves" and Lili Eggleston's "Ebb and Flow in the Shallows" expressionistic verve on either side of it,  they  absolutely swamp it... appropriate hanging, a definite NO!

Appropriate photograph to detail artworks ? Not really but done only  to illustrate a point. This sort of oblique sidelong view is seen all too often online for galleries of various sorts particularly when there is glass involved in a painting or drawing. It really sends  multiple of wrong messages. So on that point, I present a couple of nice things ... without glass.

Leann Brown, Four Rock pool themes  very attractive Acrylic Resin and wood pieces.

And finishing with a whimsical bit of fun,

Tin Denton's  "In at the Deep End,"
Mixed media.

A peculiar taste...

After all the cynical bleating over the stage 3 tax cuts but with most of the public supporting Labor's changes, the ex Ruling Rabble-Hellsong-IPA cabal have been forced to change focus and are now reading from the Prue McSween nasty-cask by berating not only the PM but his new fiancée for having the temerity to announce their intended marriage.
Jeering Jennett another Ruling Rabble toy-boy on the emasculated ABC asked another Ruling Rabble non-entity , F*****t, Fletcher "..whether he thought Albo's marriage was going to distract him from his prime ministership?" I mean, really ?... Is this is the rank level of your journalism?
It's not only the leftover's stale-male  rabble but the women also who are constantly vile of speech and thought but are supported by so-called journalists like Annabel Crabbe who obviously spends far too much time in Hissy-Fits Sale's orbit, who penned a piece insulting the fiancée by listing her "achievements" and then being negative about Albanese's previous marriage. It was putrid stuff from what was, once a fine writer and commentator. And another, Maley of the SMH headlines her column with, "Albo's "recruited" a wife! " These scribes are a disgrace!
But then all these right-wing trolls have to deflect from the scandal of Potato-Head's quite probably, criminal mismanagement of asylum seeker monies which has been judicially reported on but which all of the media are studiously avoiding.  The Specious One Speers on what is now a Ruling Rabble love-fest with a failing "Insiders" ( more than halved the audience so far in his tenure) spent 18 minutes detailing Labor's supposed failure because 18 boat people arrived in WA but a trifle over one minute on Potato-Head's fiscal perfidy. One!

So too with Barnyard Joyce's latest inanity. All the excuses in the world are flying from the mouths, pens and other orifices of scribes supporting Barnyard who was filmed on the ground ranting into his phone after falling off a planter box in Canberra's main drag late at night. Drunk as a Skunk , Pissed as a Fart, absolutely hammered... but not out for the count in their books ... he could still be deputy PM one day.
As Phillip Adams cutely commented, "He was always noted as a good retail politician ... I just didn't know it was for Dan Murphy's!" And the current deputy leader of the Nats? She was forced to admit after some wayward thought and speech at a parliamentary enquiry that she'd imbibed a couple of glasses of wine before the meeting.
That our opposition decision makers are moral and ethical vacuums seems of no concern to The Ugly American's  media minions but it's ok to attack the PM's engagement?
It's hard to fathom, beyond the politics of envy, to make everything a ploy to make all  about a good government seem bad. Play everything as a negative and mis-report facts, carry stories slanted a particular way, use selective language and generally lambaste good work.
It certainly is beyond time that a Royal Commission in to the whole media is long overdue!

Hoo-roo Possums,
Shane

Shane with new sculpture

It's been a long time between drinks.

The last post (pun intended), was the day following Albo's Labor, the Greens and "Teal" Independents  rout in comprehensively eliminating the vile Scummo and his Ruling Rabble-Hellsong-IPA cabal from further rorting the taxpayer, lowering standards of behaviour and making a mockery of parliament.

Much, on that front, has happened since and I will detail some of the events later in the blog.

I've started making sculpture again and have been exhibiting on a regular basis at a newish local viewing space.
I suppose the impetus came from a real need to create things again and to let loose with a range of materials not just figurative pieces as had been the pasts main oeuvre. It is proving very satisfying and there is something rather delicious in the work to resolve the "struggle" between "the idea" and the material, particularly as I seem a lot freer to "just have a crack" and see what eventuates.

The piece above, "G'day Clem", was influenced from looking at Tatlin,  Schwitters and an early Clem Meadmore, hence the title. I had some 12mm Ply left over from other work and limited myself to just what was there and I think it concluded that constraint quite well.
Plywood with rust-paint patina 500mm high.

Steel

"Steel" were some water-tank stand supports that had been kicking around for years so I decided to put them together and keep them in one place.

Rusted steel on a plywood, rust-paint patinated base, 450mm wide, 300 high high.
Mrs. Wombat calls it The Arachnid Hotel.

Becoming more creatively active led to joining with a fellow artist and friend, painter, Paul Anthony and having a joint exhibition.

Planning started with building a scale model of the space and both of us scaling our respective works in what later became a successful exercise in placing our pieces in the areas allotted.
There were both old and new works: Paul with oils on canvas, and I slipped in some ballet photos and drawings to compliment the sculptures which were both
figurative and non- figurative.

Lawrence Winder... aka Shane Wombat.

Much was learned, and we were happy with the positive comments about the works and how professional the space looked.

We both sold well; Paul eight, me six which allowed me to finance a new "you-beaut" bench saw and for the first time in many years, re-organize the studio as a more efficient work space.

More later

Paul Anthony

The State of the Nation

Scummo, The Bullying Liar-From-the-Shire has finally decided to leave parliament and "work" for the Yanks. Given his history one can only surmise that he'll either be sacked or jailed by them in about 18 months.
This evil man's appointment of Ita "Tabloid Gel," Buttrose to head-up and dismember the ABC has proven remarkably effective as that once iconic broadcaster is now mostly just tabloid pap.
With many senior journalists either being sacked or resigning and management kow-tow-ing to whoever makes a complaint it's barely a shadow of what it once was.

I forced myself to view "Insiders" last Sunday morning for the first time in 2 1/2 years and as I've said elsewhere, it was just a vapid pastiche of a once informative and entertaining political discussion.  The host, "The Specious One," Speers who decided to move it to Sydney has created a flat, dull, featureless wasteland of far-right obviousness where bitchy comment and triviality pretends to be reasoned debate.

ABC has, since the defeat The Ruling-Rabble-Hellsong-IPA cabal  promoted them as if they're the government and Labor government ministers regularly have their pressers truncated.
Many of the broadcasters hosts are now completely open in their bias against the Labor which means that apart from two smallish readerships of "The Guardian"  and "The Saturday Paper" all press and media in this country is now right-wing... and mostly feral right-wing at that!

The relentless negativity toward what is a very good government will eventually have its impact at the ballot box as we saw in the defeat of the referendum... and a return to the vile, self-serving, criminality of the gross dross we suffered for nine years in quite on the cards.
The referendum result showed how alarmingly naive, selfish and unthinking this population is.
It doesn't auger well for the future.

Labor needs to kick some heads... and fast!

Hoo-roo, petals,

Shane.
