with a Xmas of Spirit

G’day Possums,

Red Sails Poster

The new ballet from Ballet Theatre Australia, “The Red Sails” was a sort of “Red Shoes” meets Fellini tripping over “The Red Poppy” in its eclectic musical and choreographic mix.

...and congratulations to Shai.. on her way to dance in Canada

I have probably said before that the number of shots  taken during a performance often indicates a visceral response to its aesthetic and technical worth.

Similarly when doing the post process: you see somewhat more clearly how the performers responded in detail and you gain further insights into the idea of the work.

Perhaps it was the costumes or the groupings but I kept being reminded of Poussin
and, to a certain extent, Caravaggio so have determined to organise a shoot mid January to realise some of the ideas floating about that all this has stimulated.

Wombat Droppings or Low, Down-Under Politics

Very, very interesting is the almost total lack of Liarbril objection/refutation to any number of severely critical articles in blogs various on this incompetent rabble of a government.... are their nostrils finally filling with the stench of a rotting body which was once a social entity or are they just shielding themselves from the searing glare of their own choice?

In an appointment (without interview) Tim “Twat” Wilson has been made a Commissioner for Human Rights by alleged Attorney General, George “Library Rorts” Brandis. What this “Coot-With-Queer-Ideas-from–a-Parallel –Universe (aka the IPA) knows about humans is yet to be ascertained, as do his qualifications but he was consoled by his friend for giving up not only his Liarbril Party but his IPA membership too.
It would look odd taking $300,000.00 a year in a job you vehemently argued should be abolished!
The free speech thingy matters little in the context of these Bolt "Dolt" types; there is no point in having them removed by a tsunami of reaction. Better to keep their ilk in place as a poignant reminder of how stupidly fallible paid apparatchiks can be.

We are now to have Codes of Conduct for priests and asylum seekers… the first category indicates, how morally bereft Australians society has become and the latter, how intensely cruel and uncaring we are.

The Spirit of Xmas was evoked when Prime Miniature “Rabbott” heart-warmingly congratulated Holden workers on being “liberated from working” but declined to say when, economically, the country will be fully devastated and there will be liberation for all.
What they are doing is  “Bully-Boy” Kennett (The Dorian Grey of the Tardis State “Where-all-Goes-Backward”) writ on a larger scale: obliterate the workforce to fragment the Unions, privatise everything within reach, allow the new bosses to introduce low wages and strip back penalty rates, introduce more draconian anti-demonstration legislation …as their hero Menzies once said “A stable economy is one where there are two workers outside the factory for every one inside.”

“I am absolutely determined to change... and we will change within 12 months." A statement ostensibly made regarding the adoption of overseas children but sounding more like one of “Rabbott’s” Freudian slips concerning his rabble’s plummeting poll ratings. A smiling photo op with a celeb or two and attempting a kindness for once that costs nothing whilst slashing and burning everything else:  pardon me for my cynicism.
It all comes down to what is "vision" and "Rabbott's" character is the controlling factor in that.
Take that, as you will….
Then, if we look at the Corman's, Bernardi's, Ciobo's, Brough's, Pynes' Cash's, Brandis' and Abetz's et al, of this rabble, the vision "thing" is decidedly bleak and it will make no difference if "Rabbott" gets rolled in six months and "von Ribbentrop"Turnbull is voted office boy for the BCA & IPA, as the aforementioned rabble still sit there festering within the remnants of democracy.
One thing they do well though is to clear the "grey" areas... one is seeing with a simpler clarity.

“Rabbott” is prepared to spend $25,000,000.00 of taxpayers’ money in a vicious little political witch-hunt over the “Pink Batts” issue. Called a “Debacle” by Murdoch’s minions, this economic stimulation scheme saw 4 young male employees die from either eletrocution or Heat-Stroke when installing the Batts in ceilings. Blaming the Federal Government of the time for the failings of the employers or the State Occupational Health and Safety Authorities is an interesting move.
Apart from ignoring the 128 other workplace deaths in the past 12 months it also ignores the stimulus to the economy, the ongoing benefits of lower power usage and more energy efficient homes.
Perhaps we could have a Royal Commission into the 2 military deaths caused by “Little Johnnie” Howard’s foray into Iraq to look for what he said were “weapons of mass destruction” or perhaps one into politicians rorting their travel and electoral allowances or better, one into the role Alex “Fish-Nets-That-Batter” Downer played in the Timor Sea Oil and Gas negotiations with Woodside?
I have a feeling that this tactic by “Rabbott” might be over-reach. Ashby-Gate and Thommo-Gate are being found more and more spurious and having brought  Government ministers into the firing line, “Rabbott’ is lining his own side up for the inevitable and bloody pay-back.The Spirit of Xmas.

Keating in suit Abbott in Lycra
Pick the Prime Minister
Scott “The Drone” Morrison in deciding that Orwellian language alone is not sufficient for his “stand-up comedy act” has incorporated “Catch-22” into his repertoire. Refugees in the country (all Labor’s fault, of course) who co-habit to stretch their munificent $250.00 a week benefit whilst not being allowed to work; and who make too much noise, look different, speak a language other the Liarbril-ese or cook anything other than chops and three veg will be deported to Manus Island for re-education and more appropriate summer co-habitation in tents.
The Spirit of Xmas.

It has not been announced if the rules of the The Augustine Cup cricket match at Lords of Anglican clergy vs Catholic priests from the Vatican are to be amended re: the Vatican side bowling a maiden over!

..fossils with their pants on fire

 G'day Petals,
some pics from around our fair land before its all sold off to private interests and then some fossils with their pants on fire...so it's all....

Wombat Droppings or the Low-down on Oz Politics

Shane making comparisons
Shane making comparisons

Here in the Tardis State, “Where-all-goes Backward”, John Faine (ABC, 774 Mornings), mischievously announced the appalling news that Tim “Twat” Wilson (Coot-With-Queer-Ideas-from-A-Parallel-Universe, aka the IPA) might get to host a program on the ABC.

St.Kilda Beach
St.Kilda Beach

If he does I’m asking the Corporation for compensation for having to purchase a new Bass Tuner for the radio to modify “Twat’s” high-pitched, pre-pubescent whine.
(A voice characteristic that seems de-rigueur for many of the rancid-right males).
Although it would give him a real job for once; that the Corporation could seriously consider putting this biased, mono-concept, partisan right-winger to air to host anything is beyond comprehension, particularly as he has an IPA policy position of flogging the ABC and SBS to private interests. It would be as bad as inviting another Cuckoo into your nest!

Tasmania, East Coast
Tasmania, East Coast

We would also have to know who funds the IPA in order to separate the comment from the advertising and with the overload of right-wing drivel we have currently from 99% of the media we really don’t need more amateurs akin to the limited talk-back talent of Amanda “Il Patrone” Vanstone clogging the air-waves with their bilious thought-bubbles. Maybe if ABC programmed them all together at Sunday, 2:00am as “The Macca, Mandy and Timmy Troll Show?”  It would be a sort of nouveau “Goon-Show”.  Sans  humour.
It is a case in point that is only when skilled practitioners go on leave that you realise just how skilled, balanced and talented they are. How well they are able to maintain, over a number of hours audience interest, consistent thought and theme and are able engage with empathy a variety of guests and talk-back callers where, often under provocation, they have to maintain their manners; and none of this is amounts to much if the basics of radio technique, voice, is inappropriate and the enunciation is not in sync with that voice.
Perhaps the talented Annabel Crabbe?  … her replacement of Leigh“Hissy-Fit”Sales as news anchor was a demo on how-to-do-it in an informative, empathetic and more importantly, BALANCED manner!
Sales’ latest interview with The “Lying-Whyning-Perfect-Prefect” Pyne had none of the rude, rapid-fire interruption and value-ridden, assumed-answer questions that Shorten had to contend with a couple of nights earlier. The “Lying-Whyning-Perfect-Prefect” Pyne grinned and smirked his way through a cake-walk that not once indicated that lying about your policy’s before an election was not only contemptuous of the electorate but a bad thing for notions of democracy nor was he probed over his his silly grinning  I-don’t –care-what-you-say, performance.
Not balanced, ABC!  And again, tonight... (2/12) Sales' let this apology for a education minister lie his way around the truth of the now most recent Liarbril double-back-flip on Gonski. The only thing she had to ask him was, "Who wrote the script, Monty Python?"
.....

"the review was the most comprehensive in 30 years. It took 20 months to complete. It spans 300 pages. It attracted an extraordinary 7000 individual written submissions. Five of the six panel members held the Order of Australia. The government even gave the inquiry and the report their own website: www.schoolfunding.gov.au
But they are not there any more. Visits to www.schoolfunding.gov.au are redirected to the departmental website of minister Christopher Pyne, where there's no mention of the word "Gonski" at all, let alone a copy of the report or its 7000 submissions."
http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/gonskis-gone-school-funding-review-struck-from-record-20131202-2yljm.html#ixzz2mJ1OYQTs

So now we have an Education Minister who literally "Burns-The-Books!"

One of Crabbe’s recent pearlers: “Joe Hockey: a Cereal Killer!” I’m henceforth going to appropriate it as Hockey’s Nick-Name as it deserves all the spreading that all good shit must!
Joe “Cereal-Killer” Hockey: The man who won’t be pushed around…Ta..Daaaaaaaaa.

Adding to our world standing, it’s been reported that Oz received 4 Fossil of the Day Awards at the Warsaw Climate Change talks and caused a walkout by other delegates frustrated with our obstruction.
We were then awarded the overall, Colossal Fossil.
Ozzie, Ozzie Ozzie, Oi,Oi,Oi!
most from Kaye Lee. The aimn

And then this :
“I was an opposition leader myself for four years; I know that that position has some exhilarations and some frustrations.”  To Aung San Suu Kyi, (visiting Oz for the first time) a patriot who has endured 15 years imprisonment and a life in constant fear of assassination
Perhaps the deplorable crassness of “Rabbott” Abbott’s mind demonstrated once more by this utterance, was a line was provided by Mark “Slagger”Textor?

"Rabbott"
"Rabbott"
Was "Rabbott’s" Mein(er) Kampf called “Battlelines” because he's a conflicted Catholic and understands naught but conflict?

But this little ammo replenisher from http://theaimn.com/2013/11/30/political-lies-and-who-tells-them/ might be worth stocking for those run-ins with those you can’t seem to find any more: Liarbril voters.
Lies, about-faces and broken promises are as follows:
(for the American reader, Labor: Red, Liarbril: Blue)
Gough Whitlam: 7
Malcolm Fraser: 52
Bob Hawke: 4
Paul Keating: 3
John Howard: 41
Tony Abbott (as minister): 17
Kevin Rudd: 4
Julia Gillard: 6
Tony Abbott (as Opposition Leader): 15 …and counting. As PM ?
But don’t expect them to accept facts, their visceral hatreds have to be indulged first.

Tasmania
Tasmania

The “Right” are now more comfortable in saying they wish only to support "aspirationals".
The big debate then is really another re-invention of the wheel.
What does this nation want to be?
A social-democracy or a selfish and greedy "Tea-Party" feudal system as espoused by the IPA?
I think the last election pointed in a direction for the worse.
Australians’ have shown reluctance since Whitlam for having any lasting yearning for social justice, equity, or understanding of the issues and ideas of nation building.
Labor has been bereft in this area; the Greens the only “left” remaining are too narrowly focused and the "the bogans" are having a field day.

Coonabaraban
Near Coonabaraban

I fear we are becoming a cartoon of a nation and unfortunately having made the story-board from left-over American bits (and it’s getting worse) we only have a “sit-com” character and identity where we wrap a flag around our obese selves, daub its colours on our cheeks and practice plastic patriotism at the cricket.

See ya, Possums,
Shane

.. to Baldessin, Ballet and Boofheads.

G’day Possums,

No: 1 daughter and I went back to “the-other-side” last weekend and visited an exhibition in St Andrews.
On the way we stopped off to look at the first Wombat burrow in Hurstbridge, which sadly, time and present occupant/owner seem to be taking their toll.

If you have the time next weekend, visit Baldessin Print Gallery in St. Andrews. 90 Shaftsbury St.  Saturday 30th Nov and Sunday 1st December
There is a tantalising mix of photography, photo-gravure and mixed media with works by Silvi Glattauer, Karen Goldfinch, Tess Williams and Paul Hails where the artists approach to image making is very stimulating.
(My apologies for the reflections on these pics of mine.)

Then, I went off to photograph an early rehearsal for a new ballet “The Red Sails” a fairy-tale work that had me thinking “Red-Shoes” meets Federico Fellini in St. Petersburg.
It has, even at this unfinished stage, a dreamlike quality and an exuberance, which indicates that the cast enjoy the choreography and the story line which augers well for a performance that I’m looking forward to photographing.

Wombat Droppings or the Low-down on Oz politics

Having insulted the Indonesians, Malaysians and Papua New Guineans when in opposition, prime miniature “Rabbott”, now unable to grasp the fact that leadership is his, continues in his thuggish ways and makes matters so much worse.
It is interesting to note how many times Bogan behaviour and the Liarbril party and its apparatchiks seem to coincide.
Piers “Toad-Hall” Akerman’s recent slagging off at Labor deputy leader Tanya Plibersek’s warranted verbal disdain of Scott “Drone” Morrison’s inability to democratically answer questions in parliament was he said, the rantings of Labor’s. “…Shrew-de-Jour”. Hmmm….his arguments may have had more weight  if  “Toad-Hall” hadn’t been “done” for allegedly sexually harassing his 5 female staff  earlier in his “career” and having to pay costs to another woman (Shirley Stott Despoja) on a similar matter.
Then there was the defamation action of $200,000.00 awarded against him for "The inaccuracies of fact by the defendant [Akerman] on this topic are gross". “The Drone” Morrison,  (his nasty side already mentioned in another post) Steve “slit-her-throat” Ciobo,  Cory “Beastiality” Bernardi and “Rabbott” himself and his misogynist, bullying Uni behaviour… and Liarbril “strategist” Mark Textor’s brilliant soothing of international tension with his Boganisms.
This is not a government but a right-wing-bogan rabble.

Liarbril, Fellow-Traveller from the ABC, Leigh “Hissy-Fit” Sales continues her own inept frolic, this time trying to divert attention from Pyne “The Whyne’s" lying over breaking promises on Gonski school funding by conflating and badgering/blaming Labor leader Shorten over “Rabbotts’ foreign policy stuff-ups; showing all the manners of an Australian cricketer and then, like the love-child of Alan “Bondi” Jones, shutting down loquacious “far-north” pollie, Bob Katter when he refuses to further the mantra she wanted to run.
And lets not discuss another lacklustre Q and A with a celebrity…. an American Comedian who, in answer to a very dull question said, “…some people might not find me interesting…”.
He was correct.
Sales’ interview was so riveting, I can’t remember his name!

I imagine that with her wit, empathy, charisma and objectivity, Sales is being groomed as a possible Liarbril candidate to further the tradition of Sophie “Pit-Bull” Mirabella.

Here in the “Tardis-State” (Where-All-Goes-Backward), Pretend Premier, Dennis (Inutilus Rusticus) Napthine allowed his chief mouthpiece for concreting parkland, destroying homes, habitat and communitys for a one-shop-solves-nothing “East-West” tunnel folly, on talk-back radio to bat for his side.
Poor chap had quite a few talk-back maidens bowl him over and he only convinced many that something really, really STINKS with this whole project.

Geoff “Fiddles” Shaw, alleged rorter of govt. car allowance (ex Liarbril) berates parliament, “… as being a rabble”… geez Geoff, isn’t that “Pot calling Kettle “black-bum”? And how about using your parliamentary privlege, Geoff, to attack the Magistrate deciding your case? Ethical use of seperation of powers?

Inutilis-Rusticus’ Speaker, sends two Labor pollies on a six day holiday (in a five day parliament) in order to restore democracy… and not to avoid speakers'  manifestations of competence…or otherwise... hmmmm. Louise "Dozy" Asher manager of Government businee said,"Look over there, a Rabbit"

Once upon a time, Liarbrils were Assistant-Managers to “Big-Business”.
Now, I’m afraid they are rather less than Office-Boys.

And let’s not discuss IBAC’s interesting turning over of turds from Peter “I-Know-Nuffin” Ryan’s tenure as Police Minister…..or the fifth Chairman of the Building Authority to resign in two years… or the Ambulance crisis… or the hospital waiting lists….or the court waiting lists…or the shambles of appeals tribunal. Ahh,  Liarbrils… such Good Managers, so Economically Responsible….
Can anyone with half a brain, really believe this any more?

Cheers fellow Echidnas, the bad news is… It’s all too late!
Shane

to the Silver Mine and Lal-Lal togs and the Dross at theTop

Hello Possums,

Shane with Prints
Shane with Prints

We’ve been to a couple of photo shows in the past fortnight, a small festival and a rally about the new Liarbril non government’s asinine denialist views on climate change.
Hence we’re late again.

First up was the Melbourne Silver Mine show in Collingwood “Unsensored13” the Seventh exhibition of analogue photography presented by 43 photographers. Some of the impressive works in this show were

Leah Williams, “Sancturary”
Leah Williams, “Sancturary”

Leah Williams, “Sancturary”, Polaroid 220 which nicely explores the textural qualities of the medium…

..and Suzannah Marshall Macbeth’s “Tecla” delightfully working the limits of a Holga and producing
images redolent of C19th Impressionism.
Oli Sansom’s “Positano” was a witty tourist/travel shot  on a Yashica 635.

Mel Dixon in “System/Faith, Weather/ System“ presented nice reflection/conceptual takes on subject repetition and subject minimalism.

 “System/Faith, Weather/ System“

Malcolm Gamble’s 6x9 pinhole shots were again minimilist but colourful interiors

Whereas Barbara Fischer in “Beach On to Five” has a cool view of figures isolated in
landscape.

“Beach On to Five”
I also liked Cameron Stephen’s Polaroid “Valiant” but my shot of it became a reflected “Selfie” and is not shown here.
The Silver Mine collective was one of the better shows in the “Fringe” at the recent Ballarat Foto Biennale and I think its strength is that the group’s adherence to analogue equipment also focuses their thinking about the “why” of a photograph.
I have to admit though that I was a bit surprised to see so few dark-room prints of the works presented which brings to mind the idea of fetish-photography in the use of old gear.

Bacchus Marsh had its Strawberry and Cherry Festival and the Lal-Lal photography group (which has been noted a couple of times at Ballan Festivals) had a show.

Lal-Lal photography group

Kristina and Allan K.
It has been successful in gathering members (now at around 60) and there was some very solid work exhibited but there was more “Camera-Club” type images compared to Silver-Mine where the thinking about photography is I feel, more sophisticated.

Part of the festival were street performers like Crazy Pete, The Amazing Illusionist, which he was.
Very entertaining and affable with Kids of all ages

Followed closely by Rick Alabaster with his beautiful Grand Concert Organ. Wonderful noise.

And Ulla Taylor with her fine art.

Mrs Wombat and I then headed up to Ballarat to show some solidarity with “Get-Up’s”  Climate Change rally to protest this denialist governments’ repealing of the Carbon Pricing mechanism and it having an inadequate and under-funded "Direct Action" (so-called) Carbon emission scheme in its place.
Climate Change Get-up Group

Wombat Droppings or the Low-down on Oz politics.

“The Coalition ( Liarbril/Notional Party’s) will take a pragmatic approach to trade negotiations and will consult widely with industry bodies and associations to ensure that stakeholder priorities are taken into account. This includes remaining open to utilising investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) clauses as part of Australia’s negotiating position”.
In other words, the public will not know till Damocles sword falls and they find that foreign corporations really do run the country.

CSIRO jobs to be slashed, “without compromising its work”: Arty Sinodinos.

A statement that has as much veracity as Chris “The Whyne” Pyne’s assertion that the use of RAAF VIP aircraft for pollies  “… was probably cheaper than using commercial flights”.
I don’t know of any commercial flights that cost $50,000.00 per hour to operate.

Really, neither does “The  Whyne” but his truth and ethics rarely coincide.

Bronwen “Pompadour” Bishop as parliament’s new speaker says, “Call me Madam…” …and proceeds to act like a tart.

Greg “Ozone-Hole” Hunt, Un-Environment Minister stays away from Climate talks in Copenhagen to swot-up his Wiki research on repealing Carbon Pricing legislation and claims a smaller pollution footprint by keeping his mouth shut.  Also claims that “instinct” is a far better guide to appreciating climate change than all that silly science. Which, he says was proved by Liarbril Guru “Little Johnny” Howard and the Tarot card soothsayer he has employed as adviser.

Prime Miniature, “Rabbott” Abbott says Sri Lanka’s humanitarian credentials will be enhanced with Oz’s gift of two armed patrol boats to assist potential asylum seekers stay in Sri Lanka.
Also admires police-state tactics as a more efficient form of government.

A right thinking family at Climate Change Rally

Scott “Drone” Morrison’s, Thrice Pipped General mouthpiece seems uncomfortable in role of Government apologist. Begins to wonder if the politicising of the military might be better carried out by the military itself, without civilian interference.

“The Drone”, Morrison looks all-at-sea in parliament question time. Believes in quiet diplomacy and that arrogance should be rewarded.

Geoff  “Fiddles” Shaw,  Ex-Liarbril  (soon to make court appearance re  allegations of fiddling his govt. car allowance) causes closure of Tardis State (Where-all-goes-Backward) parliament by upsetting the speaker. Pretend Premier, Dennis “Inutilus Rusticus” Napthine blames Labor opposition for not solving this mess…. denies that being Premier is a position of authority.
Speaker denies closing Parliament to avoid a vote of no-confidence over his partisan behaviour is un-democratic.
Pretend Premier “Inutilus Rusticus” also denies claims that his anti social East meets West tunnel is one-way traffic for commercial profit and that his traffic figures included trikes, pogo sticks and skate-boards.
He says too, that he’ll institute Labor’s Gonski Education reforms, which beggars belief as he has just closed down another TAFE Campus that deals successfully with “At-risk” youth and is being criticised for the sacking of 70 staff who had been again, successfully, assisting schools identify strategies for improving classroom outcomes.
Liarbril imagination …an oxymoron.

Joe “Oh-What-a-Feeling” Hockey wants to solve imaginary debt crisis by increasing debt by $400,000,000.00. Says that when they’ve “fixed” the books they will prove it’s all Labor’s fault.  Assistant Usurer Mathias “Shylock” Corman says cooking up horse-shit is a Belgian speciality.

“Oh-What-a-Feeling” says that taxing low income workers superannuation more is better than hitting the wealthy.

Maurice “Scrooge” Newman, advisor to “Rabbott” and Head of Oz Business Council says that the cost of doing business in Oz is too high and that wages should be cut and penalty rates abolished. Fellow Business council member Gail Kelly probably agrees… as Westpac Head poor thing’s only taking $38, 500.00 a week.
Although, neither will agree to work for tips!

Ex PM x 2, Kevin 07+6 has resigned. He is taking his bat and ball and going home as has couldn’t find a team to play with. All the non players said what a good bloke he was except Pyne “The Whyne” who thinks he should stop playing games.
As it was Pyne ”The Whyne” opining … no-one listened.

Annabel Crabbe wrote a delightful ode about the last leader... which proves yet again, people of talent generally don't go into politics.
She also gave a lesson in interview technique, leaving Joe "Oh-What-A-Feeling" Hockey open mouthed and gobsmacked when the good lady (7.30,ABC) said in response to one of his non answers ,"I'll take that as a no, then". And promptly moved on to the next question. Crabbe's obvious empathy and interest in the people she interviews was a refreshing change for the two weeks she was on this program.

And then there was Mark Textor. A Liarbril strategist (allegedly), whose ability to allow hubris to overwhelm diplomacy is only matched by venomous fascist utterances  has single-handedly forced relations with Indonesia to a level probably lower than it was when they were booted out of East Timor by insulting their foriegn minister with schoolboy jibes on twitter.
Aaahhhh....Liarbril talent, imagination, taste and propriety. Even the trolls are going quiet!

Geoff "Fiddles" Shaw, (ex-liarbril, Tardis State, "Where-All-Goes-Backward") in court over apparently confusing his pollie car allowance with his hardware business activities looks like setting a precedent with his  magistrate deciding not to let him "off-the-hook" with a "diversion' order but investigating all 24 charges against him.
Pretend premier, Dennis "Inutilus Rusticus" Napthine nearly fracked himself.
That magistrate should be in Canberra. He'd have enough work for the rest of his life!

It's official, Australia can't play Test Cricket. Hit and Giggle Games in funny costumes are their forte'.
Oops...revision....after a six for nine, bowling spell... neither can England

Cheers Petals
Shane.
