Shane with new sculpture

It's been a long time between drinks.

The last post (pun intended), was the day following Albo's Labor, the Greens and "Teal" Independents  rout in comprehensively eliminating the vile Scummo and his Ruling Rabble-Hellsong-IPA cabal from further rorting the taxpayer, lowering standards of behaviour and making a mockery of parliament.

Much, on that front, has happened since and I will detail some of the events later in the blog.

I've started making sculpture again and have been exhibiting on a regular basis at a newish local viewing space.
I suppose the impetus came from a real need to create things again and to let loose with a range of materials not just figurative pieces as had been the pasts main oeuvre. It is proving very satisfying and there is something rather delicious in the work to resolve the "struggle" between "the idea" and the material, particularly as I seem a lot freer to "just have a crack" and see what eventuates.

The piece above, "G'day Clem", was influenced from looking at Tatlin,  Schwitters and an early Clem Meadmore, hence the title. I had some 12mm Ply left over from other work and limited myself to just what was there and I think it concluded that constraint quite well.
Plywood with rust-paint patina 500mm high.

Steel

"Steel" were some water-tank stand supports that had been kicking around for years so I decided to put them together and keep them in one place.

Rusted steel on a plywood, rust-paint patinated base, 450mm wide, 300 high high.
Mrs. Wombat calls it The Arachnid Hotel.

Becoming more creatively active led to joining with a fellow artist and friend, painter, Paul Anthony and having a joint exhibition.

Planning started with building a scale model of the space and both of us scaling our respective works in what later became a successful exercise in placing our pieces in the areas allotted.
There were both old and new works: Paul with oils on canvas, and I slipped in some ballet photos and drawings to compliment the sculptures which were both
figurative and non- figurative.

Lawrence Winder... aka Shane Wombat.

Much was learned, and we were happy with the positive comments about the works and how professional the space looked.

We both sold well; Paul eight, me six which allowed me to finance a new "you-beaut" bench saw and for the first time in many years, re-organize the studio as a more efficient work space.

More later

The State of the Nation

Scummo, The Bullying Liar-From-the-Shire has finally decided to leave parliament and "work" for the Yanks. Given his history one can only surmise that he'll either be sacked or jailed by them in about 18 months.
This evil man's appointment of Ita "Tabloid Gel," Buttrose to head-up and dismember the ABC has proven remarkably effective as that once iconic broadcaster is now mostly just tabloid pap.
With many senior journalists either being sacked or resigning and management kow-tow-ing to whoever makes a complaint it's barely a shadow of what it once was.

I forced myself to view "Insiders" last Sunday morning for the first time in 2 1/2 years and as I've said elsewhere, it was just a vapid pastiche of a once informative and entertaining political discussion.  The host, "The Specious One," Speers who decided to move it to Sydney has created a flat, dull, featureless wasteland of far-right obviousness where bitchy comment and triviality pretends to be reasoned debate.

ABC has, since the defeat The Ruling-Rabble-Hellsong-IPA cabal  promoted them as if they're the government and Labor government ministers regularly have their pressers truncated.
Many of the broadcasters hosts are now completely open in their bias against the Labor which means that apart from two smallish readerships of "The Guardian"  and "The Saturday Paper" all press and media in this country is now right-wing... and mostly feral right-wing at that!

The relentless negativity toward what is a very good government will eventually have its impact at the ballot box as we saw in the defeat of the referendum... and a return to the vile, self-serving, criminality of the gross dross we suffered for nine years in quite on the cards.
The referendum result showed how alarmingly naive, selfish and unthinking this population is.
It doesn't auger well for the future.

Labor needs to kick some heads... and fast!

Hoo-roo, petals,

Shane.
