The Orthodox Stench of Corruption

Shane in Ferns
Shane in Ferns

G'day Possums,

Mrs Wombat and I had a little sojourn in "Warby" recently and it reminded us somewhat of the town of Glastonbury in England.

All the pics that follow are from its surrounds.

The Ruling Rabble, fellow-traveller apparatchiks and other assorted entitled had a memoriam, a get-together some weeks ago to eulogise their hero and Liberal Party founder, "Ming Menzies" and his "Forgotten People" speech. That in their orthodoxy they had their dates wrong and their "memoriam" was a historical confection was of no import to them;  particularly "Mings" adulation of Hitler prior to the war and who as PM was selling iron to the Japanese just before WW2, hence his sobriquet, "Pig-Iron Bob:" and also the fact that he "went missing" in London for months, leaving Australia completely unprepared for the coming Pacific conflict was of no relevance to them in their re-enactment.
What matters most to the Ruling Rabble is the public facade of respectability, the pretence of fiscal rectitude and the impression of solidity.
This fractured orthodoxy was well demonstrated recently when the monies paid to the ineligible and now sacked right-wing Senator, Bob Day (apparently $130,000.00) have been "forgiven," but the data matching program informed private debt collectors are still chasing down citizen's welfare debts as miniscule as $20.00 with pensioners being hunted, too.

Don't do as I do, do as I say.
Double standards = Orthodoxy.

Enter, stage right: Trade Minister Andrew, Reboxetine Robb.
Paid $100,000.00 by a Chinese businessman for his election funding. The day before the Federal election, he signed up to a $880,000.00 pa job with the same Chinese firms who months before were awarded a 99 year lease on the Port of Darwin. Subsequently, one month after being elected Reboxetine leaves parliament!
As this little piece of chicanery was a trifle more news and noteworthy than Silly Sam Dastyari's $5500.00 worth of Chinese "donations," prime miniature Truffles, worried that the stench of their orthodoxy was becoming more apparent:  Asbestos Bishop also had her "seat" warmed to the tune of $800,000.00 of Chinese electoral munificence too,  found some 5 minutes of solace in a desperate "Look-Over-There" moment by blaming Tardis State premier Dan-the-Man Andrews for the Victorian parole board's decision to parole an ice-addled criminal nutter who, claiming allegiance to both Islamic State and Al Queada,(?) murders an innocent man, takes a woman hostage and wounds three policemen before himself being shot and killed.
What a saviour of probity is "terrorism," eh?

It's a Ballarat tradition... there's a Prime Minister's walk in the botanic gardens on Lake Wendouree with portrait busts of all the country's PM's.
It may be unfortunate for the nation that Rabid-the Hun, Abbott ever existed but now he too is there in effigy, stiffly fouling the rural environment.
Sometimes we need to be reminded of our electoral and educational failings.
Interestingly, Julia Gillard's portrait in this line-up was once the most attacked and defiled but as Rabid's has already had a crown of onions adorn it, I dare say petals, that attention to his visage might well soon overtake that of his bete' noire's.

Watching The Drum (ABC) recently I was again struck how the orthodoxy of opinion has become the mere rote of the narrow, neo-conservative.
Discussing Corbyn's almost victory in the British elections all of the panel, left and right (what was that faecal matter from Quadrant, Cater, doing there btw?) were happily repeating their truisms of how unelectable Corbyn was seemingly oblivious to the fact  that their opinions did not in any way, accord with the reality of the vote!
This is what I had noted during our last federal election:

"Early in the evening during the election broadcast I was looking at the performances of Sales, Uhlmann and Crabb and also noting the growing number of seats that were falling to Labor and sensed that "something is up here" but this panel kept blithely brown-nosing Scummo and often interrupting and ignoring Wong until : Bang: 1,2,3, Tassie seats had gone, then suddenly they were all at sea having to deal with a reality that was way out of their comfort zones. They never recovered and their bias' took a battering for the rest of the night."

The smug, self satisfied repetition of ruling rabble assertions as question, the mindless repetition of neo-liberal theory as substitute for discussion, the banality of the current orthodoxy is deadening debate and dumbing further down a nation not generally noted for the liveliness of its thinking.
When you see Fictions Frydenberg allowed to blather on nonsensically about energy costs and the failures of a privatized market being the fault of the alternative energy producers and then his opposition being question-cajoled into agreeing to the same you know you're witnessing the proliferation of propaganda by a player not a journalist.
When you hear constant commentary that there is partisan agreement to Finkel's energy review before it is even released you know that you are listening to the softening-up propaganda of what-you-must-believe. Personal opinion and analysis is being corrupted from the start.
When you have to suffer through Andrew Probyn's (ABC 7.30) sing-song "opinion" homily's attempting to rhapsodise right-wing cant ..Oi!
But for once you can only agree... he can't!
Better that Probyn, be given time off to study a talent; a real wordsmith of popular culture like Clive James and discover that James knew not just his word's worth but that with them he drew from reality succinct images of value and meaning.

It has been said that The Ugly American, Murdoch stormed out in high dudgeon from The Daily Mail's London election room as the exit polls began suggesting that his vituperative campaign against Corbyn had failed miserably..... I hope that is true.
I wonder too, if Lynton Crosby is feeling aggrieved again?
Two elections old boy, two flops....times up?

…viewing the absence of good.

Goodness is something chosen. When a man cannot choose he ceases to be a man.
What good has Abbott done?

But more later in Wombat Droppings.

G’day Possums,

There was a get-together recently for those who were students at The Australian Ballet School celebrating its 50th Anniversary.
I was contacted by one woman who interested in the photographs on display wanted to know if I had any more. We met and I did, which I scanned for her. Then there was another contact expressing similar interest…. and then another.
As there seems to be sufficient interest in the archive I have made over the years I have decided to scan the lot so people can view them like proof sheets.

As there are around 750 rolls of film, it will take some time.
More later….

I recently had occasion to visit a friend who has moved into Mt Macedon. It is a lovely place.

Wombat Droppings  or a small chronicle of the demise of egalitarian Australia and its descent into Fascism.

As I attempt write this I am listening to the eulogies for the memorial service of Australia’s greatest Prime Minister Edward Gough Whitlam.

There were standing ovations in the Sydney Town Hall when past Prime Ministers, Bob Hawke, Paul Keating and Julia Gillard entered…. and some applause for the present Prime Miniature, Rabid-the-Hun.

…..all I can do is to repeat the Anthony Burgess quote from “Clockwork Orange”, “Goodness is something chosen. When a man cannot choose he ceases to be a man.”

What good has Abbott done?

Perhaps the standing ovations symbolically represent the beginning of the end of this present dishonest, corrupt, venal , vicious and destructive  Liarbril rabble?

Vale Gough Whitlam, you made Australia great.
and this pretty much sums it all up:   http://bit.ly/1EgFBd6
Pyne "The Whyne-and-Perfect-Prat-of-a-Prefect" has been bitching and tut-tutting on morning TV about the bad manners of booing "Rabid-the-Hun" and "Little Johnnie"Howard as they entered the service. It strike me Petals that what really hurt the Liarbrils is that the eulogies comprehensively demonstrated that they have not the intellect, passion or conceptual base to match Labor at its best. The booing was a primal expression of that understanding and of just how bereft of vision these faux tea-party minnows are.

Hoo-Roo Petals,
Shane.

P.S. This is worth the read

...ranting into the Abyss of the new Dark Age

G’day Possums,

This is me with Jeff (“Boof-Head”, “Foot-in-Mouth”, “Bully-Boy”) Kennett: The Dorian Gray of Tardis State (“Where-All-Goes-Backward”) politics. It was made some years ago as a fund-raiser item when this eminence grise’ was leading the Liarbril pack and selling off the most profitable, publicly owned bits of the Tardis State (“Where-All-Goes-Backward”) to overseas private interests so he could destroy Unionism.
Ya wanna complain ‘bout your electricity, transport, water, councils, building approval times, hospital waiting lists, emergency ward crisis… see “Boof-Head!”
He has Hob-nail Boots …all the better for kicking you when you’re down. He’s sitting on a coffin with a “V” on it… an explanation shouldn’t be necessary.
He’s also either opening a bottle of Liarbril fund-raiser wine, allegedly, sold illegally from his parliamentary office (shades of “Fiddles” Shaw)…or he’s ..  well let’s just not go there, eh?

And he’s got a bunch of Crown Casino chits in his back pocket;  although now is not the time to depress you with the social costs of
gambling or back-scratching, is it?
Again…see “Boof-head”… he’s got a sinecure; the Farthest Azure.

I’ve been thinking it might be time to re-constitute the clay and model a Federal series a’la “Rubbery Figures” meets “I am not an Animal” for filmic purposes….. …contributions as to characters, content, chorus, costume, cynicism and scenarios most welcome.

I viewed the Ballarat Photographic National Show t’other day at BFAG. Whilst I can be positive about this show to the extent that all the work exhibited was very worthy, very well made, very solid technically and very well presented, I could only hear conversations about HDR technique and lenses and cameras. Nothing in this exhibition struck me as having a feeling for an idea or concept that was pursued with that brio of aesthetic vigour which allows chance, happenstance, influence and that tenuous personal search for the sublime which informs and creates something that exists independently outside of you.
It was all too formally correct, too overworked and ultimately, repellingly dull.
I’ve no samples to show here, as BFAG in its wisdom, A/; wouldn’t allow photo’s, although B/; I didn’t have a camera with me but would have used it if I had; C/; wasn’t willing to part with $12.50 for an illustrated program and D/; I’m not intending to return.
It’s a good photo show but it ain’t what art is made from!

Personal highlights re this blog from 2013: Fairfax journo writing about the bitchy, vituperative election campaign and the 3 years preceeding it …bemoans “Sophie Mirabella  being called “Pit-Bull”…. I think I was the first with that phrase.  And some weeks ago on Late-Night-Live with Phillip Adams, (may he be well),  “…and now let’s go to the Tardis State of Victoria…” Eureka!

Wombat Droppings or Low-Down Australian Politics

Australia quickly need to take stock of what sort of country they want because the one we are fast getting is not how I think we would generally define ourselves.
We are allowing one of the worlds best health systems be “Americanized”, our environment blasted for multi-national profit, our education system being ripped to privatised shreds,  a welfare system that succours the middle-class, not the needy and a incompetent pretend government too willing to sell off our sovereignty.

“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” Voltaire

Jack And Alexandra
Some think that “choice” in Education, Health, Services and Transport is essential for the well-being of society when the opposite is true.
Lake Mungo Dunes
Choice is about selectivity, exclusivity, class and ultimately, selfishness. It is a definition of division within society and a tacit acknowledgement that some are “better”, more worthy and of more value to the society than others primarily because of their wealth.

Olivia and Gus
It is much easier to think this way when wealth is spread disproportionately. Your belonging to, being in and only having to consider a small group is much easier to deal with than having to reasonably consider society as an equitable whole. The exclusiveness of your group defines its simpler parameters, its notions of  “well-being”, like its wealth cannot to be shared, as that would deny it the charm of its exclusivity.
It is therefore a self-referential, selfish system.

“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” Voltaire

St Kilda
A divided society is neither a happy one nor a safe one. Historically, inequality fosters resentment and ultimately, retribution. All that is not new but what is it’s sad to say is that the arguments for maintaining contemporary inequality that have been raised to near philosophic levels are: “Individual Aspiration” and the “Economy”. It’s now almost a holy virtue for an individual to “Aspire” but unfortunately as the “Economy” can only afford so much Individual Aspiration there is not enough of it to go around. Ergo: most will have to miss out.
There is a sense of mindlessness in this place and when the inevitable backlash occurs our ugliness will be fully revealed.

The Dalai Lama’s answer to the question of what surprised him most about humanity was: “Man, because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”    There's a person who has made a real choice.
Mildura, Grand

“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” Voltaire

“John Howard and Julia Gillard both had their share of haters.  Alas, I fear many otherwise decent Australians have become angry little haters. It is easy to think that who and what we dislike says something about us. In a small way it does. The narcissistic think it important that the world knows their view. They are in fact talking about themselves.” Amanda “Il Patrone” Vanstone (she of Cornelia Rau and Vivian Solon infamy, amongst other indiscretions as a minister) obfuscating hypocritically and inaccurately again.  Perhaps Mandy was really thinking of Scott Morrison, or Cory Bernardi or even Steve Ciobo. Maybe even Alan “Bondi’ Jones or the Queensland restaurateur and his sexist, misogynist menu? Or perhaps this is a pathetic attempt to tell us subtly that Andrew Bolt is a decent writer and requires more freedom to express himself?
And for Mandy to equate the vileness meted out to Gillard by the Murdoch press and minions with the treatment “Little Johnny” received only indicates her sheer political (liarbril) blindness to actuality.  Which parts of the vile torrents pouring from her conservative side of politics could she  compare and contrast with Labor's actions?

“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” Voltaire

Heather “Leer” Ridout, Peter “Children Overboard-Rottweiler” Reith,  Michael “Thug” Kroger and Peter “I-Had-a-Baton-Once” Costello came to mind t’other day when Coca-Cola-Amatil, owners of the Ardmona  canneries in Shepparton sacked 70 of its full time maintenance staff to replace them with contract workers. CCA did this it seems to curry favour with “Rabbott” in order to get $25,000,000.00 as a bailout package.
It has an eerie resemblance to an interstate plastics manufacturer who, back in 2005 bought a second business in “The Tardis State” (Where-All-Goes-Backward) and was promptly conned by the afore-mentioned to “experiment” with Industrial Relations by “offering” his workers the “choice” to be self-employed.
This was gleefully abetted by “The-Coots-with-Queer-Ideas-from-a-Parallel-Universe,” the IPA.

Rehearsal
Needless to say the “experiment” failed. The business folded and 80 workers lost their jobs. Sadder to note, the original interstate business, a family one, of 60 years productive service folded the next year, with its 80 workers losing their jobs, too.
I’m sure the ideological mongrels from the IPA were well satisfied with their “experiment” as were Ridout, Kroger, Costello and Reith!  Pity they've never had to run a business or feel responsible for 160 losing their livelihoods.
Let’s keep an eye on Shepparton and the tenor of the town.

seeing the Prospect before us

G’day Possums,

Some rehearsal shots …performance stuff will be up soon.

Ballet rehearsal
Emma, jump

We’ve produced another video and seeing it on the “Big-Screen” for the first time was quite an experience.

projection on screen
Da BIG screen
The lens quality of it was very good and segments which deliberately had no sound, generally, worked. What took me by surprise was a quality, something akin to scale in sculpture that became apparent in one or two sections.

Ballet rehearsal
Ally and Jack

Making a sculpture you are always aware of the pieces’ intended destination; the light, reflections and any other factors that affect the way a work is visually altered by its environment and therefore altered aesthetically.

Ballet rehearsal
Laura, jete

In film it would seem to be rhythm that best equates with sculptural “scale”.

Ballet rehearsal
Olivia and Gus

When the rhythm is “out” it’s almost as if the mind drifts away from the narrative by presenting another thought (or no thought at all) until the original rhythm is picked up and you are returned to the journey.  Like scale, rhythm is inherent in the structure from initial concept through to final title and any deviation or hic-cough in the flow disturbs the viewing experience, which is quite literally magnified on the big screen.
Timing, composition and relationship to previous and following scenes all seem to be part of this rhythm mix and a somewhat instinctive faculty in balancing these elements, important.
A complex business but enjoyable to tackle…. Video may be seen at…..

Wombat Droppings

Pyne the Whyne
Prefect Pyne the Whyne

Christopher “The Whyne” Pyne got caught out lying to camera again…ABC had a lovely time, I think, refuting his bullshit.
Shades of, “I-didn’t-meet–for-an assignation with Ashby.”

“Rabbott” has promised that the Liarbrils will definitely “STOP-THE-BOATS” in their fist term….yeah, right… and bangs on about not being a divisive government…which although untrue, sounded fine until you started reading a Mal Brough (oops, there’s that Ashby coot again) fundraising menu on FB and realised that the new definition of BOGAN is “Member of Liberal Party”!

Rabbott

Joe “What-a-Feeling” Hockey feigns a four-year-olds’ pout and whinges, “BUT SHE CALLED ME FAT, mummy!”  Or in other words.. Oohhh, look over there …a rabbit!
Steve (Smack-em-down) Ciobo, Liarbril, Q’land opines that people are lining up to “slit Gillard’s throat”…. Hmmmmm such delicate language skills that as Tim (Queer-Coot from IPA) Wilson says “…..is just the hurley-burley of politics”. Really Tim?… Not offensive ? Not inciting others to similar comment?
Alan “Bondi” Jones is still doing his malevolent and execrably putrid best on radio, this time over “Menu-Gate”, blaming the victim for playing the gender card …sort of like blaming the Titanic passengers for drowning themselves.
One of his shock-jock ilk  (Sattler, Perth) was suspended ( late news ...his radio station sacked him) for his offensive comments to the PM’s face on radio but you have to wonder when the Liarbrils and their conservative media will reap the whirlwind of this legitimisation of hate they have been so adept at cultivating and sowing.
‘Tis a pity that their policy development doesn’t receive the same attention but then, any distraction will serve their purpose in hiding the truth of their plans.

Here in the State of Tardis (where-All-Goes-Backward), Failed ex-Premier Jeff “Bully-Boy” Kennett (The Dorian Gray of Tardis State politics) uninvited, put his hand up to be the saviour of the under-performing Melbourne F.C.
One M.F.C. supporter said succinctly, “I’d rather we kept losing”.
A sentiment more widely appreciated than “Bully-Boys’” exploration into cognitive dissonance. But then, this syndrome seems endemic in the conservative side of politics.
$70,000,000 is being spent on incarceration modules on railway stations and more prisons; this being announced at the same time as pretend premier Dodo (Inutilus Rusticus) Napthine doesn’t announce cutting $2,500,000 and effectively closing down successful programs for marginalised youth.
Well, at least there’s accommodation for them and a bonus for the privatised prisons if they don’t re-offend within a certain time. A scheme, by-the-way, poo--pooed by the sentencing and parole authorities as open to rorting.
Perhaps a scheme thought up by ex-Liarbril Member for Frankston, Geoff (“Fiddles”) Shaw?  Who is still under police investigation…. allegedly.

The new $3,000,000,000 freeway to nowhere that solves nothing is going to be a win-win for the developers. The taxpayer is to pick up the tab if road usage isn’t as predicted!
Dontcha just love the economic competence and forward thinking of the Tardis State Liarbrils?

Build a 30 km rail link to the airport? Nah, too hard.

Matty (“What’s-a-Backhander”) Guy, State of Tardis (where-All-Goes-Backward) mis-planning minister t’other day praised “Bully-Boy” Kennett as being the saviour of the Art Deco, Regent Theatre.
My research indicated that it was the late Rupert Hamer, Premier at the time and not btw a friend of Kennett. And let’s not forget the bans by the Builder’s Labourers Federation for three years, stopping Lord Mayor Ron “Casino” Walker (friend of “Bully-Boy”) from demolishing the place.
Matty was at the time a staffer for “Bully-Boy” so, in best IPA fashion, is probably re-inventing history to praise his mentor.
State of Tardis (Where-All-Goes-Backward) Liarbrils have just celebrated 100 days since deposing Big Bird Baillieu ( Silveretail Incompetens). There has been a lot more noise but the policy has remained unimaginatively retrograde.

Cheers Petals,
Shane

Senator “Bestiality” Bernardi (associate of Dutch Ultra–Right winger, Geert Wilders) thinks his involvement with the American Legislative Exchange Council is not a conflict of interest and that we don’t need more gun laws and that it’s all-right to have tobacco sponsorship and apparently it’s all-right too, to dud your divorced partner by hiding money from them…and multi-culturalism..?.. that sucks, too!

It’s all about trust isn’t it?

Bernardi has been reported as having "ratted" on one of colleagues who allegedly said that he only joined the Liabril party because he lived in a Liarbral held seat. If it had have been a Labor seat he would have joined the Labor party!
What a friend!

It’s all about trust isn’t it?

The ALEC was also involved in a High Court challenge against the Gillard’s and Roxon’s anti-smoking legislation last year and has financial ties in the U.S. with big tobacco and the NRA. It is assisting them to counter any moves President Obama might try in getting gun reform.
I wonder if Bernardi views Rush Limbaughb as the intellectual role-model for commentators and radio journalists?

Whilst Mr “Rabbott” is no-where to be seen on these issues (but seething with his own ambitions, probably understands) he and Joe “Oh what a Feeling” Hockey are calling confusingly different “motherhood” shots on whether the Liabrils can post a surplus if they get into government.
But “Rabbott” “did-a-runner” again! Rather than face media scrutiny about policy after “Big Red” pulled a “swifty” in announcing the election date for nine months hence, “Rabbott” ran away …like he tried to in Parliament!

It’s all about trust isn’t it?

Oohhh… look over there! A rabbit!

Not that any of this really matters.

What matters are the decoy tactics employed…..stir up a little “shit” here, another little bit there…continually creating a sense of crisis, bang-on about how much better you will be, how much more stable things will be (although you’ve got few policies worth mentioning)… the electorate is so stupid they’ll keep watching the football, tennis, grand prix’s and cooking comps where over-feted “chefs” actually work at paying their staff less and less ….whilst we bask in the glow of their sophistication
Release your policies a week out from the actual election so that they can’t be adequately scrutinised and claiming that you haven’t the resources but constantly slip in the word “audit” so that you can tell the electorate when you’re in power that all the money’s gone and you’ll have to slash everything.
But you were warned about an audit!

It’s all about trust isn’t it?

Jeff “Bully-Boy” Kennett, (the Dorian Gray of Tardis State Politics) got all wound up this week when it was revealed (again) that Bernie Eccelstone milks the Tardis State (Where All Goes Backward) out of $30,000,000 for his fee for each Grand Prix!
“You can’t expose commercial-in-confidence” he shrieked, “We’ll lose the race”
Eccelstone didn’t agree with Jeff’s analysis ‘cause, Why-look-a-gift-horse???
That it also continues to make whacking great losses that we are contracted to pay for whilst there are no credible figures for attendance, takings or the dubious quality of its “branding value” is a testament to Mr Kennett’s business smarts in setting all this up and costing this State around $500,000,000 in lost revenues.
But we shouldn’t forget the lack of balls in subsequent Labor Premiers in not flipping this monstrous waste of resources away when they had the chance.

It’s all about trust isn’t it?

In another depressing example of Liarbril “values” in the Tardis State (where all goes backwards) under “Big Bird” (Genus: Silvertail Incompetens) Baillieu, MP Inga Peulich has been reported as threatening to savage her political colleagues for not supporting her son to become mayor of Kingston council. He, who reportedly accepted thousands of dollars in campaign donations from developers who wanted to concrete “Green Wedge” areas and then declared to council that his returns were “zip”! Apart from the seeming illegality of his donation non-disclosure he also dudded his benefactors and apparently offered a deal to a non-development candidate to get a mayoral vote. He lost 8-1.
All this happened in the same area that Geoff (Wanna-use-my-Govt-car) Shaw is a member and who is under another cloud for: you guessed it, fundraising irregularities…. What IS in the water down there?
Further rampant individualism was on show as Lance Armstrong “confessed” in the High Church of Chat that he was a cheat and gave the distinct impression that he had little understanding of what he had done and that now he had spoken it would all go away.
Federally depressing was “Big Red” Gillard’s kow-towing to religious bodies so that they can kick sinners, and other people they deem naughty out of work and not be said to be discriminatory.
This, in the same week as the Catholic Church paid $100,000 compensation to a disabled woman whom a priest preyed upon for 14 years.  Now the Church is allowing him to return to full pastoral duties.
Orwellian ain’t it?

Cheers,
Petals
